The Norwood Public Library, now a branch of the Warwick Public Library, was built in 1923 at 328 Pawtuxet Avenue. [4] The neighborhood is also home to a number of churches. The first, St. William's R. C. Church, was established in 1924 as a mission of St. Matthew's of Cranston. The original building stood at what is today 108 Perry Avenue.
By 1935, the Rhode Island State Library was administering state aid for community libraries and library extension service. [4] The Department of State Library Services (now OLIS) was founded in 1964 as a result of legislation initiated by the Rhode Island Library Association, taking over some of these roles from the State Library. The Westerly Memorial and Public Library was built in 1894 and was designed by Longstaff and Hurd in the Richardson Romanesque Revival style. It was built with funds from Stephen Wilcox in 1892.
