This is a list of law enforcement agencies in the state of Minnesota. According to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics' 2008 Census of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies, the state had 448 law enforcement agencies employing 9,667 sworn police officers, about 185 for each 100,000 residents.
Minnesota was divided into a south-eastern area including the Twin-Cities with area code 612 and the rest of the state in the south-west, north, and north-east with area code 218. The Minnesota Highway Patrol was created in 1929 when Charles M. Babcock, the Commissioner of Highways, appointed Earle Brown, Sheriff of Hennepin County, as Chief of the Highway Patrol.
