Bhairon Singh Shekhawat (23 October 1923 – 15 May 2010) was an Indian politician who served as the 11th vice president of India.He served in that position from August 2002, when he was elected to a five-year term by the electoral college following the death of Krishan Kant, until he resigned on 21 July 2007, after losing the presidential election to Pratibha Patil.
He was born to Rajvi Amar Singh, a judge, and Rani Jaswant Kanwar in a Rajput family. He is married to a home-maker Ratan Kanwar, the daughter of senior Indian politician and former vice-president of India late Bhairon Singh Shekhawat . [ 3 ]

Elections to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly were held in February 1990 to elect members of the 200 constituencies in Rajasthan, India. [1] The Indian National Congress won the popular vote, but the Bharatiya Janata Party won the most seats and its leader Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was appointed as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan for his second term.

Bhairon Singh Shekhawat became Chief Minister of Rajasthan, India for second time in 1990 as leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal alliance. In 1990 election to Rajasthan Legislative Assembly out of total 200 seats Bharatiya Janata Party won 85 and Janata Dal won 50 seats. [1] Shekhawat was sworn in as chief minister on 4 March 1990.
Rajasthan's politics has mainly been dominated by the two state stalwarts, namely, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Mohan Lal Sukhadia of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress respectively. Shri Sukhadia ruled Rajasthan for 17 years and died in February 1982 while Late Shri Shekhawat was in the national political horizon.
