National Institute of Technology Hamirpur (NIT Hamirpur or NITH) is a public technical university located in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, India. It was declared to be an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India under the Institutes of Technology Act. The institute was established in 1984 as a Regional Engineering College.
The College was established in 2003 with affiliation from Himachal Pradesh University. It started with four core branches, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering. In 2008 it added Information Technology. In 2010, Civil Engineering was added.
The institution was initially affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. The first 05 batches were affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University i.e. 2010-2014 batch was the last to get degrees from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. The construction of the college is going on in stages.
The performance in the test, group discussion and personal interview and application rating will be the criteria for admitting the students. The candidates for non-subsidised students compete among themselves, so is the case with the subsidized seats. Himachal Pradesh University admits excellent minds of the country to M.B.A and Ph.D. programmes.
