Waiouru Military Camp is a camp of the New Zealand Army in the central North Island of New Zealand near Waiouru. All New Zealand Army soldiers complete their initial basic training, the All Arms Recruit Course (AARC), at Waiouru Military Camp. [1] The camp is also the site of the army marae.
Those selected were required to complete three months initial full-time training, followed by an annual commitment of three weeks part-time training for three years. The issue of compulsory military training became a point of debate in the 1960s as New Zealand contributed a combat force to the Vietnam War.
