Berklee College of Music (/ ˈ b ɜːr k l i /) is a private music college in Boston, Massachusetts.It is the largest independent college of contemporary music in the world. Known for the study of jazz and modern American music, [6] it also offers college-level courses in a wide range of contemporary and historic styles, including rock, hip hop, reggae, salsa, heavy metal and bluegrass.
Berklee Online, founded in 2001, is the private, nonprofit online school of Berklee College of Music in Boston that offers music courses, certificates, bachelor's, and master's degree programs. Berklee Online is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).
In 2015, Boston Conservatory began talks with Berklee College of Music to explore a merger of the two schools. [6] On June 1, 2016, the two schools merged under an institutional umbrella called Berklee, which now consists of Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Berklee College of Music, Berklee Online, Berklee Valencia, and Berklee NYC. William "Bill" G. Leavitt (October 4, 1926 – November 4, 1990) was an American jazz guitarist and arranger best known for his long series of guitar instruction books and for developing a related curriculum at Berklee College of Music as chair of the guitar department.
After attending Berklee College of Music on scholarship from 1993–1996 Steve was asked to join the Ravi Coltrane Quartet. He toured and recorded with the band from 1996 to 2002. The music was a mixture of traditional jazz, funk, and odd meter fusion.
