The Charleston Golden Eagles football program represents University of Charleston in college football at the NCAA Division II level as a member of the Mountain East Conference (MEC). [2] The program competed between 1904 and 1956 when the school was known as Morris Harvey College.
Charleston is currently coached by Mark McEntire, a former University of Texas golfer, who won the 2014 & 2016 CAA Coach of the Year awards. The Charleston women's golf team has won three conference championships as well, 2006 in the SoCon and 2014 & 2015 in the CAA. Prior to 1978, the university was called Morris Harvey College. Charleston's main rivals are the West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets.
