Dr. Martens, also known as Doc Martens, Docs, or DMs, [2] is a British footwear and clothing brand, headquartered in Wollaston, Northamptonshire, England. Although most known for its footwear, the company also makes a range of accessories including clothing and bags.
Dr. Martens Airwair boots became an iconic cultural icon and their popularity was the catalyst for the founding of the retail chain that trades as SOLETRADER. NPS Shoes continued to make footwear under licence until the mid-1990s called 'Dr Martens made by Solovair'. They trademarked the name Solovair in 1995 [4] and now make their own air-cushioned boot using the same lasts and leather cutters and machines used to create the first original Dr. Martens suspension soles in the UK.
To maintain independence White's registered the Tredair trade mark in 1976 to produce boots labelled "Dr Martens Tredair", and then just "Tredair" after 1983, using their own patented foam-injection system to make a bouncier mid-sole than the DM felt. They filed patent 2292878B with Harry Gee as inventor.
Dr. Martens is an English footwear brand established in 2009. Accent Group established the brand's first factory outside the UK in Dunedin in 1989 and remains the exclusive distributor of the brand in Australia and New Zealand.
