Inspector Gadget is a 1999 American superhero comedy film directed by David Kellogg and written by Kerry Ehrin and Zak Penn from a story by Ehrin and Dana Olsen.Loosely based on the 1980s animated television series of the same name, the film stars Matthew Broderick as the title character, Rupert Everett as Dr. Claw, Michelle Trachtenberg as Penny, and Dabney Coleman as Chief Quimby.
In 2002, as part of the DIC Movie Toons series of movies, DIC released a full-length animated television film called Inspector Gadget's Last Case, directed by Michael Maliani. It premiered on television on October 6, 2002, on Nickelodeon and was released on DVD and VHS shortly afterward by MGM Home Entertainment .
The company also released Inspector Gadget's Biggest Caper Ever! under the Movie Toons brand, although it was not officially part of it. Umbrella Entertainment released My Fair Madeline in 2010, and re-released it in 2013. In France, TF1 Video released selected films including Sabrina, Friends Forever and Inspector Gadget's Last Case.

Alongside The Care Bears Movie, [14] Inspector Gadget was Nelvana's first foray into animation outsourcing. [15] Most of episodes from the first season were animated in Japan by Tokyo Movie Shinsha, while a few episodes were animated in Taiwan by Cuckoo's Nest Studio, before being finished in post production by DiC and Nelvana.
Note: Gadget has a mustache in the pilot, but it was later removed. Metro Goldwyn Mayer threatened to sue DIC because the character looked too similar to Inspector Clouseau from The Pink Panther movies. To keep up continuity, when this episode aired in syndicated re-runs, the mustache was explained to be a disguise for that particular case.
