Impoundment of water commenced in January 1967. The lake has an 85 mi (137 km) shoreline and occupies an area of 11,630 acres (4,710 ha). Its main purposes are flood control, municipal water supply and recreation. TPWD leased land along the lake in 1968 from the federal government opened the park in 1970.
Pickerington Ponds Metro Park is a metropolitan park in Pickerington and Columbus, Ohio, owned and operated by Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks. The park has 1,608 acres (651 ha) with several trails and five overlooks for bird and other wildlife watching. [ 1 ]
An observation tower provides a bird's eye view of the park. There are three regions in the park: Blackland Prairie, Riparian Forest, and Upland Forest. A pond in the preserve is named after Vasil Levski. [2] Birds that live in the park include killdeer, owls, woodpeckers, egrets, herons, scissor-tailed flycatcher, and turkey vulture.
