A myoma is a type of tumor that involves muscle cells. [1] There are two main types of myoma: Leiomyomas which occur in smooth muscle. [1] They most commonly occur as uterine fibroids, but may also form in other locations. Rhabdomyomas which occur in striated muscle. [1] [2] [3] They are rare tumors, occur in childhood and often become malignant.
Increased bone resorption leads to hypercalcemia and causes nephrocalcinosis, thereby contributing to kidney failure. Amyloidosis is a distant third in the causation. People with amyloidosis have high levels of amyloid protein that can be excreted through the kidneys and cause damage to the kidneys and other organs. [28] [29]
A uterine fibroid can cause rectal pressure. The abdomen can grow larger mimicking the appearance of pregnancy. [1] Some large fibroids can extend out through the cervix and vagina. [7] While fibroids are common, they are not a typical cause for infertility, accounting for about 3% of reasons why a woman may not be able to have a child. [10]
Uterine fibroids are leiomyomata of the uterine smooth muscle. As other leiomyomata, they are benign, but may lead to excessive menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia), often cause anemia and may lead to infertility. A rare form of these tumors is uterine lipoleiomyoma—benign tumors consisting of a mixture of adipocytes and smooth muscle cells.
The specific cause of gallbladder adenomyomatosis remains unclear. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] [ 6 ] Some of the risk factors for gallstone formation have also been reported in patients with adenomyomatosis such as hemolytic disease , congenital biliary abnormalities, obesity, and inflammatory bowel disease , but whether these are also risk factors for ...
Benign tumor growth causes a mass effect that can compress neighboring tissues. This can lead to nerve damage, blood flow reduction ( ischemia ), tissue death ( necrosis ), or organ damage. The health effects of benign tumor growth may be more prominent if the tumor is contained within an enclosed space such as the cranium , respiratory tract ...
Hematological values such as hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cell counts are elevated in patients with myomatous erythrocytosis syndrome. [3]The diagnostic criteria for myomatous erythrocytosis syndrome includes polycythemia, uterine myoma, and return of hemoglobin levels to normal following fibroid excision surgery.
Removal is necessary when the fibroid causes pain or pressure, abnormal bleeding, or interferes with reproduction. The fibroids needed to be removed are typically large in size, or growing at certain locations such as bulging into the endometrial cavity causing significant cavity distortion.
