Star Wars is an ongoing Star Wars comic series published by Marvel Comics since January 14, 2015. Originally written by Jason Aaron with art by John Cassaday , it is set between the 1977 film Star Wars and its 1980 sequel, The Empire Strikes Back , much like the previous comic published in 2013 by Dark Horse Comics .
The original Star Wars trilogy was adapted into manga by MediaWorks between 1997 and 1999: A New Hope (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983). Later Shogakukan adapted The Phantom Menace (1999) into manga too. They were published in English by Dark Horse Comics. [2] [3] [4]
The 1977 installments were the first original Star Wars stories not directly adapted from the films to appear in print form, as they preceded those of the Star Wars comic series. [181] From 1985 to 1987, the animated children's series Ewoks and Droids inspired comic series from Marvel's Star Comics line.
