The Miss Kim lilac (Syringa pubescens subsp. patula 'Miss Kim') is a cultivar of lilac which was selected by Elwyn M. Meader while stationed in Korea as an army horticulturist. [1] It was supposedly named after Elwyn M. Meader's Korean helper, whose name was Kim. [2] The species is endemic to Korea and Northeast China. [3]

[1] [2] Over the course of his career, Meader developed over 50 new strains of plum, peach, squash, rutabaga, sweet corn, melon, watermelon, salad bean, pod bean, pepper, pumpkin, nectarine, bush cherry, kiwi fruit, persimmon, cranberry, raspberry, and blueberry.
Syringa vulgaris is a large deciduous shrub or multi-stemmed small tree, growing to 6–7 m (20–23 ft) high. It produces secondary shoots from the base or roots, with stem diameters up to 20 cm (8 in), which in the course of decades may produce a small clonal thicket. [1]
