The American Crisis, or simply The Crisis, [1] is a pamphlet series by eighteenth-century Enlightenment philosopher and author Thomas Paine, originally published from 1776 to 1783 during the American Revolution. [2] Thirteen numbered pamphlets were published between 1776 and 1777, with three additional pamphlets released between 1777 and 1783. [3]
[2] [3] He authored Common Sense (1776) and The American Crisis (1776–1783), two of the most influential pamphlets at the start of the American Revolution, and he helped to inspire the colonial era patriots in 1776 to declare independence from Great Britain. A famous contributor was Thomas Paine, who published his first-ever journalism in the Journal in 1775 and contributed a series of pamphleteering essays entitled The American Crisis from December 1776 onwards. [1]
