The history of the Vancouver Canucks begins when the team joined the National Hockey League (NHL). Founded as an expansion team in 1970 along with the Buffalo Sabres, the Vancouver Canucks were the first NHL team to be based in Vancouver. They adopted the name of the minor professional hockey team that had existed in Vancouver since 1945.
On April 9, 1998, the Canucks scored three short-handed goals in a 6–3 road win over the Calgary Flames. On February 29, 2020, Tocchet earned his 100th win as head coach of the Coyotes in a 5–2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. [15] After the 2020–21 season, Tocchet and the Coyotes mutually agreed to part ways. [16] [17] On January 22, 2023, Tocchet was named head coach of the Vancouver Canucks to replace Bruce Boudreau.
