Burt County is a county in the U.S. state of Nebraska, bordering the west bank of the upper Missouri River. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 6,722. [1] Its county seat is Tekamah. [2] The county was formed in 1854 and named after Francis Burt, the first governor of Nebraska Territory. [3]
The H. S. M. Spielman House, [2] at 1103 I St. in Tekamah, Nebraska, is a historic house that was built in 1906. It has also been known as the Chamberlain House and has been denoted NeHBS #BT06-2 . It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986; the listing included three contributing buildings .
Tekamah was founded in October 1854 by Benjamin R. Folsom, and incorporated on March 14, 1855. [5] [6] The name is derived from the Omaha language, meaning "big cottonwood". [7] [8] [9] Its development was stimulated by the construction of railroads through the area, such as the Chicago & North Western, which have since been taken out of Tekamah.
I’m not sure if this story clears up the pheasant fiasco for anyone. It seems, in fact, that everyone involved is indeed insane. Now at least I know it wasn’t me.

The E.C. Houston House is a historic two-story house in Tekamah, Nebraska. It was built by Joseph Wixer in 1904-1905 for E. C. Houston, and designed in the Classical Revival style. [2] Since 1985, it has housed the Burt County Museum. [3] It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since March 13, 1986. [1]
