ISTE has an Executive Council at National level. It has active membership of more than 97286 technical teachers, 5,66,466 student members, more than 2345 institutional members (including IITs, IISc, NITs and other leading technical institutions), 1166 faculty chapters and 1280 students’ chapters throughout the country.
ISTE membership is extended to individuals, affiliates (organizations, like school districts and state technology organizations), and corporate members interested in the use and application of technology in Education. ISTE has members in over 100 countries with concentrations in the US, Canada, Latin America, and Australia.
The new ISTE Standards for Students were released in June 2016 at the 2016 ISTE Conference and Expo. The 2017 ISTE Standards for Teachers, renamed the ISTE Standards for Educators, were released in June 2017. The ISTE Student Chapter has successfully organised intra-collegiate tech fests such as Prarambh, Exodus, Semfiesta and Persona along with several talks, workshops, quizzes and business events every year. There have been two National Level techfests 'Aavishkar' in 2006 and 2009. ISTE CET is the best ISTE student chapter in India.
Since the formation of the ISTE student chapter in July 2003, the chapter has been organizing many activities under the ISTE banner for the benefit of the members. The ISTE students' chapter of SJCET, Palai was inaugurated by Dr. D. Balakrishnan (chairman, ISTE Kerala section) in 2004. [11]
In 2023 ASCD merged with ISTE to form the largest education non-profit organization focused on supporting educators in designing high-quality learning experiences for all students. The merger brings together the instructional expertise of ASCD with the innovation expertise of ISTE.
