The directions provided have her use wifi to update, but there is no wifi option in the settings for her vehicle. Figure out which radio you have based on the TSB (technical service bulletin)… then get the appropriate one linked …. these are the current release - December 2020 release. the firmware will read Rel_UA.19.38.70 once updated, even for navigation units. This is a firmware only update, no maps included for navigation units.

From what I've gathered so far these files used to be on a server accessible to the public via the SubaruNet.com website, this website apparently used to be accessible to both employees AND customers alike ...
Edit: I just check my current version, and it is Rel_UK.22.49.70. This may be why the update is "failing", though not sure why it wouldn't display an "already up to date" type message.

I told the Subaru Service Tech that CarPlay was skipping and that there was likely a firmware update. They could not figure out how to update the SW because there was no Connect to Wifi option in the settings menu. I found these forums and updated from Rel_U1.18.38.50 to Rel_UE.19.22.70 and then the latest build of Rel_UA.20.38.70.
Hey Subaru of America, thanks for the email on the Starlink software update, but for reasons shown I was unable to make it happen. 2019 Subaru Legacy head unit delamination. I needed entire new starlink when this happened. Sorry OP. Screen delamination. Known issue. SOA Replaced mine.2018 Legacy 3.6. I was told to kick rocks by SOA. 2018 outback.
if anyone from Subaru is paying attention, including release notes about what has changed would be helpful! I just received the same notification for my '23 Crosstrek as well. You can find some info online if you google "starlink update Rel_UK.22.49.70".
