French ships attack Đà Nẵng Port in 1858. Đà Nẵng has been a port city for many centuries, long before the first arrival of European traders in the 16th century. One of the first Europeans to visit the city was Portuguese explorer Antonio De Faria, who anchored at Đà Nẵng Port in 1535.

The Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Henrique is a Portuguese maritime and Polytechnical college dedicated to education and training of merchant marine officers (deck officers, engineering officers and electro-technical officers), as well as the training of other professionals for the maritime industry, ports, transportation and logistics.
ISEP was founded by the minister Fontes Pereira de Melo in 1852 as Escola Industrial do Porto (Porto School of Industry) to support the industrialization of Portugal, and some time later upgraded to Instituto Industrial do Porto (Porto Institute of Industry). Since 1989, was grouped with other schools in the Polytechnic Institute of Porto.
It was established in 1986 as Quang Nam - Da Nang Gifted School (Secondary and Senior High School). Like other specialized schools nationwide in Vietnam, the school offers advanced and specialized curriculum for gifted students who show their exceptional talents in the Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities.
