Crandall is a city in Kaufman County, Texas, United States. Its population was 5,100 in 2023. [4] It began as a railway town, developing alongside the Texas Trunk Railroad in the early 1880s. Green Valley Raceway was a 1.600 mi (2.575 km) permanent road course, whilst the start-finish straight was also used as a drag strip. Houston Raceway Park, formerly known as Royal Purple Raceway, was a quarter-mile dragstrip in Baytown, Texas, just outside Houston. Built in 1988, the Park is situated on 500 acres on the eastern edge of the greater Houston metropolitan area and is Houston's only major multi-purpose motorsports venue.
Built in 1959, it featured a 2.8-mile (4.5 km) road course, half-mile (.805 km) oval, and 4,200-foot (1,300 m) drag strip. The land was intended to be used for a multi-sport spectator venue, but a racing complex was built after a hill climb was staged on the property. [ 2 ]
A dragstrip is a facility for conducting automobile and motorcycle acceleration events such as drag racing. Although a quarter mile (1320 feet, 402 m) is the best known measure for a drag track, many tracks are eighth mile (201 m) tracks, and the premiere classes will run 1,000 foot (304.8 m) races.
