Bomoseen State Park is a 3,576-acre state park in the towns of Castleton, Fair Haven, Hubbarton and Benson, Vermont. [1] [2] The park is located in the Taconic Mountains on the western shore of Lake Bomoseen.
The town has one school: Castleton Elementary School, which serves grades K–6. [11] [12] [13] Students from Castleton families attend high school at Fair Haven Union High School and attend junior high at Fair Haven Union Middle School. [14] Castleton University is located in Castleton and dates back to 1787. It is a public liberal arts college.
Vermont Route 4A is the main road through the CDP; it leads east through Castleton village 9 miles (14 km) to West Rutland and west 3 miles (5 km) to Fair Haven village. Vermont Route 30 crosses Route 4A at Castleton Corners and leads north 29 miles (47 km) to Middlebury and south 6 miles (10 km) to Poultney.

Fort Warren was a wooden stockade fort located in Castleton, Vermont, at the present-day intersection of East Hubbardton Road and Vermont Route 4a. Built during the Revolutionary War , construction began in 1778 and was completed by April of 1779.
