Loomis (formerly Pine, [8] Pino, [8] Smithville, [9] and Placer [9]) is an incorporated town in Placer County, California, United States. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town's population was reported as 6,836 in the 2020 census.

Mount Whitney, the tallest peak in California is named after him. The State Mining Bureau was established in 1880, and the position of State Geologist was changed to State Mineralogist.
