Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) is a Queensland government agency responsible for the housing of inmates at Queensland correctional centres. It is an Independent QLD Government Agency that operates under its own Corrective Services Act. QCS operates eleven high security and six low security correctional centres across the state. [1]
The 300-bed minimum to maximum security prison for females was built by Baulderstone [2] and officially opened on 21 December 2011 by Corrective Services Minister Neil Roberts. [3] The facilities began operation in January 2012. [4] SQCC is the first completed stage of the Southern Queensland Correctional Precinct in Australia.
It is the largest correctional centre in Queensland. [2] The centre's Maximum Security Unit was closed on 1 March 2013, with maximum security inmates moved to other maximum security facilities within the state. Brisbane Correctional Centre, formerly the Sir David Longland Correctional Centre [1] and also known as Wacol Prison, is a male prison facility located in the suburb of Wacol in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
