Traveller's Rest is located in a rural setting west of Kearneysville, on more than 200 acres (81 ha) of land which Bowers Road (County Road 1/1) runs through in an east–west direction. The main house, a 1 + 1 ⁄ 2 -story stone structure, is set well back on the north side of the road.
The house at Traveller's Rest, near Kearneysville, is West Virginia's sole plantation house designated as a National Historic Landmark for its national-level historical significance. As of 2015, the majority of West Virginia's plantation houses remain under private ownership.

The Rellim Farm near Kearneysville, West Virginia is a 50-acre (20 ha) farm and orchard complex which was once part of the nearby Traveller's Rest property. The upper Shenandoah Valley region supports a significant fruit industry, and Rellim Farm is a representative example of this form of agriculture, the oldest family-owned operation in Jefferson County.
The Bower is an 1806 residence, originally built in the Federal style in Jefferson County, West Virginia, United States. It was later remodeled with Gothic Revival features after a fire in 1892. The name appeared as early as 1753 when Major General Adam Stephen had a hunting lodge at this location.
