Maggie Valley is a town in Haywood County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,687 at the 2020 census. [4] A popular tourist destination, it is home to Cataloochee Ski Area and the former Ghost Town in the Sky amusement park. Maggie Valley is part of the Asheville metropolitan area.

With eighteen ski slopes and trails, approximately 44% are rated beginner, 39% intermediate, and 17% advanced. Its top elevation is 5,400 feet (1,646 m) above sea level, yielding a vertical drop of 740 feet (226 m).
In 1900, S. C. Satterthwait of Waynesville, North Carolina, which was 5 miles (8.0 km) away, built the Eagle Nest Hotel at an elevation of 5,050 feet (1,540 m). The location was a mountain range he called The Junaluskas, [ 3 ] on a peak called Mount Junaluska. [ 4 ]
Ghost Town was the brainchild of R.B. Coburn, a Covington, VA native who moved to Maggie Valley, North Carolina. Originally, it was planned that the park would be placed between the towns of Waynesville, North Carolina and Clyde, North Carolina , but future owner Alaska Presley suggested the mountain top locale.
The Plott Balsams stretch from Sylva in the Tuckasegee River valley to the southwest to Maggie Valley in the northeast. The Great Smoky Mountains border the Plott Balsams to the north, and the Great Balsam Mountains border the range to the south. The range comprises parts of Jackson County and Haywood County.
