In 1802, Asa Potter bought the inn from Benjamin Bogardus. In 1804, during the race for Governor of New York State, both candidates had headquarters in Rhinebeck. Gen. Morgan Lewis had his at the inn, then known as Potter's Tavern, and Vice President Aaron Burr had his down the street at the Kip Tavern. Potter died in 1805.

Van Vredenburg Farm is a historic home and farm complex located at Rhinebeck, Dutchess County, New York. The farmhouse was built about 1830 and is a 1 + 1 ⁄ 2-story, five-bay frame building in the Greek Revival style. The main block is flanked by 1 + 1 ⁄ 2-story wings. It is topped by a gable roof and sits on a raised stone foundation.
