In 1972 the two colleges merged and became known as Newcastle College of Arts and Technology, changing name in 1988 to Newcastle College. [2] [3] Newcastle College gave the reason for the merger as having a responsibility to support improvement in other colleges, and to retain its level of Train to Gain funding. [4]
