On June 19, 1965, the North General Hospital was renamed Dr. Jose R. Reyes Memorial Hospital in honor of Jose Reyes y Reyes for his service as the Director of the hospital from March 16, 1948, up to his death in 1964. At present, it is known as Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center by virtue of Executive Order No. 851 s.1982. [1]

The hospital was refurbished in 1950. The hospital also catered training and teaching, as approved by Pedro Mayuga, former Director of the Philippine Bureau of Medical Services of the Department of Health. Luis Guerrero, Antonio G. Sison, Jose Albert, Florencio Quintos, Rosendo R. Llamas, and Fortunato Guerrero were the consultants of the hospital.
In January 1971, the hospital started as the Tondo Annex of the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Hospital.By virtue of Republic Act 6375 on July 16, 1971, the ownership and possession of a lot, building, and other physical plants, equipment, tools, implements, records, funds, appropriations and personnel were transferred to the Hospital Board in the name of the Tondo General Hospital and Medical Center.
