    It's just to trick the mind. 24 frames being shown per second is actually very jerky. 48 is more asthetically pleasing. In fact 24fps is not at all jerky (it exceeds the motion fusion frequency) but the flicker is unacceptable. Showing each frame twice reduces the flicker, but adds motion artefacts.
