The pistol will chamber and fire the first round, but then the bolt does not cycle. When I pull the bolt back, the fired round extracts, and releasing the bolt chambers the next round, which will fire, and repeats ...

I recently picked up a Mauser C96 Broomhandle to add as a companion to my C96 Bolo. This C96 was made between 1911 and 1915 and a former owner had it reblued. The bore is matte and about 40%, which was surprising because of the good deal I got on this weapon. The bolt stop and the sear had been replaced, but the hammer pivot/sear spring was ...

Value can range from $500 to $5000 or more so it is worth knowing what he has as if a correct Mauser C-96 it could be of a much greater value than if a copy. No need to remove the grips. Just get some good pictures of both sides and of the top of chamber and side markings. Please verify the serial number.

The difficult part is to determine whether the "chinese broomhandle' was actually made in the 30's and 40's (various chinese copies in 7.63mm caliber of that vintage in 95% or better condition will bring around $1500, and the ones in .45acp in $4k range) from 1970s and 1980's production ...

The primary identifying characteristics of an original "red 9" are the serial number range, a caliber (original caliber, not a resleeve job) and the german army acceptance mark on the right of the chamber. Everything else is secondary. This specific gun is a $400-600 item.
