Recommendations for Choke Application The use of both ammunitions - .45LC and .410 requires the exchange of barrel choke in order to operate the firearm safely and accurately. See if this instruction is applied to your model in the specifications on page 12. Correct grip (low elbow) Incorrect grip (high elbow)
Unless you have a much longer barrel to add choke tubes. The Judge is a field gun for snakes and such, but still allows a 45LC for larger animals that could be dangerous, like a rabid coyote or such. The Judge is available with a 6.5" barrel which would be plenty long enough for a tube - either internal or external.

Don't know about the shot, but I have one of those Cherokee Chief single shot break action pistols and find it fun with the .45, a 410 slug, and a .32 S&W Long insert. Been looking for a 10" .22 LR X 410 insert. The only thing I don't like is the wood grips which are hard and don't fit well, so they ...
The 45/410 barrels are chambered extra deep to accomodate the 410 shell. Thats one reason that these barrels are not known for exceptional accuracy. They are indeed rifled, as a smooth bore shorter than 18" would be illegal. It is my understanding that TC stoped making 45/410 contender barrels because you can chamber a 454 in one.
The Comanche is a fine snake gun, a .410 load of 7 1/2 shot will hold a deadly pattern to 25 feet or so, all you'd ever need for snakes and the .45 Colt would be accurate enough for personal defence on big critters out to fifty feet, again all you'd ever need, but that is about it for the Comanche.
As to the second question the 410 is still longer the the .454 ( dont know how much longer then the .460 but it is longer). This is why quite a few folks fire form 444Marlin brass and some times .303brit for use in the 410 chamber. If you do a google search it shouldnt be hard to come up with the chamber dimensions for each.

Loss of gases and abrupt bullet entry in bore. +Very little information about disassembly and Rossi only offers certain parts. + I put a red dot on and it worked so well I took it off and put a shotgun bead on front.
Gendoc have you tried the federal personal defense .410 handgun load in youre 45colt/410 survivor? the ones I have shot were thru a single shot rossi with mod choke they grouped very tight at 15 yards, wondering how they would do in the survivor with rifling, these loads were developed for the taurus Judge so they might be good out of the survivor barrel
Hi everyone. A friend gave me a H&R survivor model SB1 barrel in 45 colt /410. The barrel has a modified choke in there with no tool to remove.

The "throat" of a .45LC/.410 is 3" or more long, and likely greater than .452. The bullet could easily be entering the rifling while slightly canted and failing to stabilize on exit.
