Key Largo is located at (25.106637, -80.429917 It shares the island of Key Largo with Tavernier to the southwest and North Key Largo to the northeast. U.S. Route 1, the Overseas Highway, runs the length of the community, leading north 57 miles (92 km) to Miami and southwest 97 miles (156 km) to Key West.

Tavernier is located at (25.015156, -80.513678 It occupies the southwesternmost 3 miles (5 km) of Key Largo, the largest of the Florida Keys.Tavernier is bordered to the northeast by the community of Key Largo and to the southwest, across Tavernier Creek, by the village of Islamorada on Plantation Key.
The Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary covered an area of 103 square miles (78 sq nmi; 270 km 2) adjacent to and east of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park [2] and was created to protect a portion of a coral barrier reef which lay outside the waters of that park.
The state-sanctioned Everglades National Park Commission proposed a national park for the Everglades, including the reefs off Key Largo. Opposition from property owners, outdoorsmen, and Monroe County Commissioners stopped the plan. North Key Largo is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,431 at the 2020 census , [ 2 ] up from 1,244 in 2010 . It includes two private clubs, the Ocean Reef Club and the Key Largo Anglers Club, and is reached from the mainland via the Card Sound Bridge .
