When using the Gregorian calendar, both YYYY-MM-DD (2025-02-10) and DD/MM/YYYY (10/02/2025) format can be used. While the DMY format (10 February 2025) is used when writing full Gregorian dates, the MDY format (February 10, 2025) is also acceptable. All government documents need to be filled up in the YYYY-MM-DD format. [2]

The year count of the Vikram Samvat calendar is usually 57 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar, except during January to April, when it is ahead by 56 years. The Vikram Samvat calendar (also called Bikram Sambat in Nepali) should not be confused with the Nepal Sambat, a much more recent innovation. Vikram Samvat is an official calendar of Nepal.

Nepal Sambat was established on 20 October 879 when Rāghavadeva was ruling Nepal. [8] The origins of the calendar system however remains a mystery. Many experts have theorized on its origin but there is yet to be a theory that is unanimously agreed upon by experts.
Non-Gregorian dates are treated as Gregorian. The PHP library that this template ultimately depends on assumes that all dates, irrespective of context, are Gregorian calendar dates. Consequently: some dates that would be valid in a non-Gregorian context are treated as out-of-range dates and converted to the next-best in-range values.
