Tumkur is a knowledge hub in the south interior Karnataka and boasts of its own Tumkur University, two medical colleges, five engineering colleges, 38-degree and post-graduate colleges, one dental college and many polytechnics, high schools and primary schools imparting top-level education to all classes of citizens.

Siddaganga Institute of Technology (SIT) is an engineering college located in Tumkur, Karnataka, India. It is affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Autonomy, as granted by the University Grants Commission, in concurrence with the Government of Karnataka, has been conferred upon selected colleges, which grants upon them, certain special privileges. Autonomous colleges can frame their own schemes of study, curricula and evaluation, without need of the approval of the university.
