The name "Perth" derives from a Pictish word for "wood" or "copse", related to the Welsh "perth", meaning "hedge" or "thicket". [10] During much of the later medieval period, it was known colloquially by its Scots-speaking inhabitants as "St John's Toun" or "Saint Johnstoun" because the church at the centre of the parish was dedicated to St John the Baptist. Tayside House was an office block development in the city centre area of Dundee. The building served as the headquarters for Tayside Regional Council and its successor organisation following local government reorganisation, Dundee City Council. Tayside Police leased part of the building, which formed the city centre police station.
Glamis village church. Glamis is a well-preserved conservation village.Much of its historic core was built to house estate workers in the late 18th century. The Angus Folk Museum, run by the National Trust for Scotland, is located in the village.
The Tayside Derby, (also known as the Tayside Trifecta) is a football rivalry based in Tayside. The matches are contested by the three professional clubs in the region: Dundee, Dundee United and St Johnstone. A match between Dundee and Dundee United, whose grounds are in the same street, is referred to as a Dundee derby.
