Memorial Drive is a long road that travels from Stone Mountain to Downtown Atlanta in the U.S. state of Georgia. In 2000, a part of Memorial Drive was named "Cynthia McKinney Parkway," [1] but the naming has come under scrutiny since her primary defeat in 2006. [2] Memorial Drive began as East Fair Street, one of the first streets in Atlanta.
Reynoldstown is bordered on the west by Pearl Street, across which is Cabbagetown and, south of Memorial Drive, Grant Park; on the east by Moreland Avenue and Edgewood; on the south by I-20, across which is the Ormewood Park neighborhood and an industrial area which is officially part of Grant Park; and on the north by the railroad line and Inman Park.
In 2019, the National Park Foundation purchased the Life Home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunset Avenue, where the family moved in 1965, from the estate of Coretta Scott King and transferred it to the National Park Service for restoration before it is opened to the public as an expansion of the National Historic Park. The short Mountain Drive segment of SR 10 passes north of the Kensington MARTA station. At the eastern end of Mountain Drive is an intersection with the eastern end of SR 154 (Memorial Drive). At this intersection, SR 10 turns onto Memorial Drive and has an interchange with I-285. [1]
In 1977, a memorial tomb was dedicated, and the remains of Martin Luther King Jr. were moved from South View Cemetery to the plaza that is nestled between the center and the church. Martin Luther King Jr.'s gravesite and a reflecting pool are also located next to Freedom Hall. Mrs. King was interred with her husband on February 7, 2006.
King's first funeral took place on April 5, 1968, at R.S. Lewis Funeral Home in Memphis. After the shooting, King was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at St. Joseph's Hospital and was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m. King's closest aides contacted Robert Lewis Jr.—a local funeral director who had first met King two days prior—to retrieve the body and prepare it for viewing.

Peachtree Street, south of the railroad gulch, has a multitude of stores along its stretch between Alabama Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. It is the primary two way north-south street in this district. Trinity Avenue and Memorial Drive are the only two-way streets in South Downtown that run east and west.
