Pokegama Lake is the name used for two lakes in the U.S. state of Minnesota. One is located near Grand Rapids in Itasca County. [1] [2] The lake was made into a reservoir by the construction of the Pokegama Lake Dam on the Mississippi River in Cohasset, Minnesota. The other Pokegama is located near Pine City in Pine County. [3]
Cross Lake is a translation from the Ojibwa bimijigamaa, meaning "a lake that traverses (another body of water)", and is located 13 miles (21 km) from the river's mouth. Pokegama Lake, located 17.5 miles (28.2 km) from the river's mouth, gets its name from the Ojibwa bakegamaa , meaning "a side-lake (of another body of water)".
Pokegama Bay is a small bay in northwestern Douglas County, Wisconsin, United States, which the St Louis River flows. [1] It makes up part of the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin. Pokegama River, named after the bay, flows into this bay. Artist Eastman Johnson built a small cabin at Pokegama Bay while living in Wisconsin.
