In 2015, Google chose OpenWeatherMap as a weather data provider for its bid-by-weather script in Google Ads, which serves the ads based on the local weather conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and cloudiness. [3] In the same year, Google published documentation on how to use OpenWeather data to display weather conditions on Google Maps. [4]
Construction of the radar station at Kamloops Commenced in 1956, with the unit being designed as an early warning radar site to augment the Pine Tree Radar Chain. A limited degree of operations was achieved by December 1958. The station was first manned by American Air Force personnel and became home of the 825th Radar Squadron.
The radar station was shared with the United States Army for Nike missile command-and-control. In 1960, Army Air Defense Command Post (AADCP) D-15DC was constructed for coordinating Nike surface-to-air missile launches from numerous Michigan batteries from Algonac/Marine City (D-17) south to Carleton (D-57) & Newport (D-58).
The FPS-18 radar served continuously until the site was decommissioned early in 1968. The city of Saugatuck purchased the building, tower, and radar equipment from the Air Force in 1969. Today, the installation appears very much as it did when operational with virtually all of the Cold War-era electronic equipment still in place.
