Slane Castle (Irish: Cáisleán Bhaile Shláine) is located in the village of Slane, within the Boyne Valley of County Meath, Ireland.The castle has been the family seat of the Conyngham family since it was built in the late 18th century, on land first purchased in 1703 by Brig.-Gen. Henry Conyngham.
This was the seat of the Flemings of Slane, barons of Slane. The Flemings moved to a castle on the left bank of the River Boyne, the current location of Slane Castle. The Flemings were lords of Slane from the twelfth century until the seventeenth century, when the Conyngham family replaced them as lords of Slane during the Williamite Confiscations.

Major General Henry Conyngham of Slane Castle (before 1681–1706) was an Irish soldier and politician. He was a Member of Parliament in the Parliament of Ireland for Killybegs in 1692–93 and for County Donegal in 1695–99 and 1703–06. [1] Conyngham served during the reign of James II as a captain in Mountjoy's Regiment.
