Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital was established in 1905 as Riverside Hospital in downtown Paducah. In 1959, the Diocese of Owensboro purchased the hospital, and the Sisters of St. Francis of Tiffin, Ohio, arrived to manage the facility. With the change in ownership, the hospital was renamed Lourdes Hospital in honor of Our Lady of Lourdes. [2]
Mercy Health Fairfield was originally constructed to support 150-beds. Expansions in the mid-eighties, mid-nineties and 2005 added services and expanded in-patient beds to 220. In 2022, the hospital presented plans to the Fairfield City Council and Planning Commission to expand by adding a 30,000-square-foot single-story medical office building.
