Catalina 22 A Catalina 22 with a wing keel, on its road trailer.. The Catalina 22 is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with teak wood trim. It has a masthead sloop rig, a raked stem, a vertical transom, a large self-bailing cockpit, with under-seat lockers, a transom-hung rudder controlled by a tiller and a fixed fin keel.
The Catalina 22 was built by Cooper Enterprises under licence from Catalina Yachts. The company was formed to produce the designs of American sailboat builder Catalina Yachts under licence and actually built the Catalina 22 and Catalina 27 at its Port Coquitlam facility. [1] [2] [3]
The Catalina 22 and the Catalina 30 were both inducted into the now-defunct Sail America American Sailboat Hall of Fame in 1995 and 2001 respectively. In a 2010 review Steve Henkel wrote, "the Capri 22 was designed to be a light, fast family boat with an emphasis on daysailing and fleet local racing. One main parameter in conceiving the Capri line was to produce a very well-finished boat for a reasonable price. One result is that both hull and deck have neat and easy-to-clean fiberglass liners.
