The best fishing is done by kayak, but if you don't own one or feel like renting one the shoals below the dam there at the pavilion are accessible over the rock wall that the walking path is located on (be aware the access is dangerous and steep and during the summertime creatures with no legs are frequent visitors) I've done this several times ...
Limited out on Reds Saturday and caught huge trout and Reds on Friday... Fishing was tough on the flats between SH and Keaton, the grass was still spotty and there wasn't any bait moving around. I think the best fishing will probably be in May. We caught these all near shore on Mirrolures, Live Target, and Rapala twitch baits in 3-4 feet of water.
Senior Member. There is a launch below the dam. I would not suggest planning on floating any distance downstream though and then paddling back. It can be done but only in low water conditions and you also have to check to see when they will generate from the dam.
A lot of features like small humps, points, channel edges, brush, and riprap banks are even right there at many parks and boat ramps on Lanier and everyone blows right past them. Flukes, shaky head, topwaters, and reaction baits like crankbaits and underspins all work, so choose a few, pack lightly and you can cover a lot of ground.
Not sure how far you can look at the info but watch it this summer. On a side note, I too have caught decent trout above the shoals during summer. Jones Bridge is still the best bank fishing spot The park at Morgan Falls is too crowded without enough bank to get away from everybody. May 1, 2015. #17.
Evans Co. PFA is about 20 or so minutes from Statesboro. Its not the best fishing ,but it's free. there are 3 ponds there that you can put a boat in. I think the biggest is around 80 acres. Bass, bream, crappie, cats, and pickeral.evans co. is Claxton.....take 301 south and make a left onto 280 you almost cant miss the signs
Member. I have fished Lake Meriwether in my kayak a few years back. Did bass fishing exclusively. Lots of grass , but caught a few that were around 2 lbs or so. There were a couple of older gentlemen pulling a bass boat out when I put in that had similar success earlier in morning. Jun 26, 2024.
My best advice would be to pick up a kayak and hit the savannah river shoals up. All you want and more there. Smallmouth, bartrams bass, largemouth bass, redeye bass, and shoalies. If its a fight you're looking for, grab or make a few rope lures and go after the gar. Gar everywhere. Hope this helps. May 13, 2013. #5.
If your fishing the pilings carry a flat hoe and scrape the barnacles off a few pilings to chum it up. Flip unweighted or lightly weighted bits of shrimp into the slick. Also while Sheepshead on light line is fun light line has no place near a piling spool up with something tough and cut resistant. Jan 19, 2022. #6.
