In fact high bilirubin is a sign for cirrhosis. I have slightly high AST ALT (60-70 something) and total protein (8 something) and was diagnosed 2 months ago with chronic hepatitis B and liver mass (having ultrasound and CEA/ AFP level checked in 3 weeks). I don't know about low AST ALT but mine are just high. It is interesting that yours are ...
My ast/alt levels also climbed into the 1,000's. I too was extremely worried. Never had liver problems before but sure enough, they found out I had mono and within weeks the numbers came back down. As a lot of people have stated up above, there a number of reasons as to why your numbers are high. Please don't worry until there is a reason to.
Hello . . . New here. I am a 55 yr old male. I recently received news from GP that I have elevated AST (47) and ALT (80) which are about twice what they usually are. Upper level for AST Lab range is about 40, and ALT is 67. Bilirubin is 1.1. ALP is about 64. This has happened within the past six months. I admit I'm a little anxious.
More than AST/ALT levels, these indicate if the liver is working properly. Regarding the ratios of AST to ALT, I'm not aware that these have any great significance other than that, in drinkers, if the ratio is >1 and especially in the neighborhood of >2, then alcohol-induced liver damage is the likely cause.
i have had my liver function tests done 2x in the last 2 months. They were really high the first time. My ALT was 89 and my AST was 58, which was high but not sky high. I just got my second test results back. My ALT was lower, 61, and my AST was 60.
Enzyme levels were ALT/SGPT 821 IU/L & AST/SGOT 1,063 IU/L. All Hepatitis tests came back negative. Gallbladder previously removed, duct was enlarged but no stone seen on ultrasound or CT. Right now they are not allowing me to take any tylenol products which includes my migraine medication (Fioricet) because of the levels that were in my system.
However my liver test readings were very high: Bilirubin - 1.4 Alkaline Phosphate - 57 LDH - 330 AST(SGOT) - 123 ALT (SGPT) - 159 I am very worried now. I have decided to stop taking Red Yeast Rice as I think that may have caused the numbers to go high. After how many weeks should I redo my blood test to check if my liver tests returned to normal?
Wimzie - "normal" results were ALT and AST about 30 - 40 and all other Liver Chemicals within Normal ranges. This test was done at a lab. I get the tests because I do drink occasionally and want to monitor any changes. The test with the high numbers was from a desktop "health screening" unit in Kmart. They only gave me Alt and Ast.
I had my blood drawn to test my levels a couple weeks ago. It had been a couple years since I had this done. She had my liver enzymes also checked. Everything was normal except my alt was 305 and ast 275 and total wbc count was low at 2.8. 2 years ago my alt was in the normal range and ast slightly high at 41. I went this week for more bloodwork.
Is this something I should be concerned about. I am 58 years old. I also have high blood pressure. - My eGFR was just 51 in August of this year. I was really concerned about and my creatinine and bun were flagged high. I went back in October and had mine rechecked and my eGFR was up to 57 and my creatinine and bun had
