His latest admission to hospital resulted in a diagnosis of a pelvic abscess collection, he has had a drain fitted and is to have another CT scan in 3 weeks to monitor the situation. We have been told that he may need further surgery for this involving taking muscle and tissue from his thighs and using it to pack the abscess area.
Chemo/radiation treatment began Apr 2018 which proved to be unsuccessful and did not shrink the tumor, infact made matters worse and pushed the tumor further down which evaded the prostrate. Fast forward to July 14th i had to have advanced surgery, Pelvic Exenteration procedure which went on for 12hrs. Removal of colon, bladder and prostate.
Thanks for all our replies. My husband is 6 weeks post surgery now and had a scan last week which showed a small collection of fluid in this area. His surgeon doesn't want to open up the wound again to drain it unless absolutely necessary, He said that it can sometimes re-absorb by itself. Apparently this could be causing the pain.
I’m 9 days post surgery and I was re admitted soon after being discharged. There seems to be an issue as to why I can’t go home. The main issue for readmission was because my bowels were still asleep and I was in a hell of a lot of pain at home. On arrival they inserted an ng tube which came off ...
First day - they try and get you up and about - I was very unwell and had a lot of dark blood passed and I still have a pelvic collection a year later-I was told around 1 in five of us have leaks in the join and hence this caused a more lengthly healing process for me. I was also advised I would be in hospital for a minimum of four nights.
In my case, things were worsened by a lot of pelvic radiotherapy, to control simultaneous early-stage metastasising prostate cancer, which is known to damage nerves used in bowel control. I'm happy with the colorectal and gastrointestinal hospital teams who have been trying to help, but the drugs and physiotherapy approaches all seem pretty hit ...
Hello!🙂 I am looking for any advice or other people's experience of having an ileostomy reversal following a subtotal colectomy. Following a visit to A&E in April 2022 with suspected appendicitis I ended up having a subtotal colectomy and end ileostomy and subsequently diagnosed with Stage 4 ...
The ELAPE is a more extensive procedure which includes surgery to the levator muscles (part of the pelvic floor). ELAPE is necessary in my case because mine is such a low rectal tumour <2cm from anal verge and it is also tethered to one side of the pelvic wall (lavator ani) so margins have to be greater to give a chance of eventual success.
Long story short I finally went to docs and she confirmed needed blood tests and fit test. Well these came through on patients know best before doctors, 66ug on fit test so positive, 9ug so moderately anemic and rdw levels up, with notes refer on 2ww urgent referral for suspected colorectal cancer. Was in a meeting at work too When the email ...
