Segovia was born on 21 February 1893 [2] in Linares, Jaén.He was sent at a very young age to live with his uncle Eduardo and aunt María. Eduardo arranged for Segovia's first music lessons with a violin teacher after he had recognised that Segovia had an aptitude for music.
The concerto was first performed on 6 February 1956 in Houston, Texas, by Andrés Segovia and the Houston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the composer. A reduction for guitar and piano was published in Paris by Max Eschig in 1955, who also published the full score in 1971.

The first international guitar performance competitions in Europe were promoted and initiated in the 1950s by virtuoso Spanish guitarist Andrés Segovia. In 1956 he managed to get the guitar discipline to be included in prestigious multi-instrumental Geneva International Music Competition.
Although I have not been able to determine when Segovia first began to include the piece in his recital programs, we do know that he programmed the piece for a recital in Graz, Austria in October, 1924. Although the program is lost, it is quite possible that Segovia also programmed the piece for his milestone debut in Paris, earlier that year.

Paco de Lucena died when Andrés Segovia was five. When Segovia began playing, a year later, his first guitar was one played by Lucena. [1] On 27–31 May 2009, the 150th anniversary of Lucena's birth was celebrated with a flamenco concert in Lucena Castle. [2]
