The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is a men's professional basketball league in the Philippines, composed of twelve company-branded franchise teams. Founded in 1975, it is the first professional basketball league in Asia and the second-oldest in the world after the NBA.
The PBL was formed on May 6, 1983, a brainchild of San Miguel Corporation chairman Danding Cojuangco, under its original name the Philippine Amateur Basketball League (PABL). [1] It was the successor of the defunct Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA), which folded during the early-1980s.
