Spennymoor United had some success over the years. Most notable was their success in the 1977–78 season, where they reached the semi-final of the FA Trophy, where they lost to Leatherhead 2–0 away in the first leg and won 2–1 at home in the second Leg, therefore, losing 3–2 on aggregate.

Spennymoor was a county constituency centred on the town of Spennymoor in County Durham. It returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom , elected by the first past the post system from 1918 to 1950.
