The United Farm Workers of America, or more commonly just United Farm Workers (UFW), is a labor union for farmworkers in the United States. It originated from the merger of two workers' rights organizations, the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) led by César Chávez, Dolores Huerta, and Gilbert Padilla and the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee (AWOC) led by organizer Larry Itliong.

The union's long-standing lawsuit against the Hatch Act of 1939 (with Lee Pressman representing the UFW) finally reached the Supreme Court in 1947. In United Public Workers v. Mitchell, 330 U.S. 75 (1947), the Supreme Court of the United States upheld the Act.
FLOC was founded in Toledo, Ohio, in 1967 by Baldemar Velasquez. [1] A migrant worker who had worked in the fields since he was six years old, Velasquez led his first strike at the age of 12. The Forty Acres, located in Delano, California, was the first headquarters of the United Farm Workers labor union. The union acquired the site of the compound in 1966, and the buildings were built in the ensuing years.
While at college, he became involved in the United Farm Workers' grape boycott. After graduating, he worked for the union full-time. He met and married Linda Chavez, daughter of the union's president, Cesar Chavez. In 1981, he was elected to the union's executive board, and in 1992 he became first vice-president. [1]
