The unique Tokaanu Tailrace Bridge, a combined road and water bridge crosses a power canal of the Tongariro Power Scheme in the North Island of New Zealand. State Highway 41 travels along the top of this bridge, with the Tokaanu Stream, an important trout spawning stream, running under the road surface.

The Magdeburg Water Bridge in Germany (2003) connects the important Mittellandkanal over the river Elbe to the Elbe-Havel canal. The aqueduct was built between 144–140 BC, during the Roman Republic. The still-functioning Acqua Felice from 1586 runs on long stretches along the route of the Aqua Marcia. Together with the Aqua Anio Vetus, Aqua Anio Novus and Aqua Claudia, it was an exceptional technical achievement and is regarded as one of the "four great aqueducts of Rome."
