[3] The Apocalypse of Lorvão (one of the ten most important artistic works in Portugal according to the Europeana project), completed in 1189 in the scriptorium of the Lorvão monastery, near Coimbra, is the only manuscript of the Beatus of Liébana produced in Portugal during the Middle Ages.
Emanuel Jorge da Silva Santos (born 20 November 1976) [1] is an artist from Madeira, Portugal. In 2017, he became famous for a sculpture of Madeiran native footballer Cristiano Ronaldo which was widely derided by media outlets. The English newspaper The Guardian commented “suddenly, this sculptor was the most famous artist in the world”. [2]
Nuno Gonçalves (c. 1425 – c. 1491, fl. 1450–71) [1] [2] was a Portuguese artist whose work initiated the Portuguese Renaissance in painting. [3] He was court painter for Afonso V of Portugal from 1450 to 1471, and in 1471 he was appointed the official painter for the city of Lisbon. [4]
